What Has Been Going on at NewMovieFriday.com?

You may have noticed that the site looks a little different. Also, that it hasn’t been working recently and that it was even completely down for a day or so last weekend. Had some problems with my web host (HostGator) and in the trek to getting things solved, they were only made worse by one of the support techs, as he made a change that took down this site and a few others on my account that included my main site TVaholic.com.

It took a little while to get things back up and at least get the sites viewable to those trying to visit my sites. Everything is pretty much back up to where it was, except here at NewMovieFriday.com. For the most part, things are back in working order here. But, I am now in the middle of redesigning the site, which ended up needing to happen because of the problems that arose mentioned above.

Look for things like the video player, in the right hand column, with upcoming trailers and such. Also, will be adding a new section to the site with posts featuring clips, news, photos, posters, and trailers from movies that are coming soon.

Now, it’s time to get back to watching and then reviewing movies. Also, need to catch up on the past few weeks of reviews.

Here are three quick reviews from the last three weeks:

  • The Dark Knight was awesome and totally lived up to the hype, which almost never happens. Rating: Pay Full Price and See It Twice.
  • Hellboy II: The Golden Army was entertaining, but had a completely throwaway plot that was just completely useless. Rating: Worth a Rental.
  • Hancock was great for the first 45 minutes or so, great setup, and then peters out in the second half. Rating: Worth an Early Matinee.

Just as things look to be going in their direction, they find themselves under attack from a new criminal mastermind that calls himself the Joker. He embarks on putting the criminals back in charge, but threatens to push the Dark Knight to walk the line between being a hero and becoming a vigilante.
First Thoughts: What else is left to say about this movie, it is the one we have been waiting for all summer. It is also available at some IMAX theaters.

Movie: Mamma Mia! (PG-13)

The daughter, has her own plans and has invited three men that new her mother back before she was born. She thinks one of them is her father and wants him to walk her down the aisle at her wedding.
First Thoughts: A bit of counter-programming, if you will, to The Dark Knight, for the ladies that have no interest in seeing Christian Bale in a rubberized suit.

Movie: Space Chimps (G)
Starring: Andy Samberg, Cheryl Hines, Kenan Thompson, Stanley Tucci & Kristin Chenoweth
Genre: Animated Family Comedy

Yet, they have to band together when they find themselves on an unknown planet in the middle of a fight to save its population from their oppressive leader.
First Thoughts: A bit more counter-programming, for families with kids to young to take to see The Dark Knight.

Movie in Limited Release:

  • Lou Reed’s Berlin - Concert film about Lou Reed performing songs from his 1973 album Berlin, which he had never previously done.
  • Mad Detective - Foreign actioner about a police pistol that goes missing and the crime spree that is connected to it. A top detective is given the case and he seeks help from his mentor who went mad years earlier.
