Confessions of the International Shopaholic on Friday the 13th
Here in the Seattle area there are three new movies to choose from this Friday the 13th weekend. They include Confessions of a Shopaholic, a new version of Friday the 13th, and The International.
Confessions of a Shopaholic is based on the popular book and may be a good movie, the ads, trailers and such don’t look that good. I confess that I will probably check it out down the road at some point, cause I like Isla Fisher, but it ain’t getting me to the theater this weekend.
Friday the 13th (2009) is a remake, or re-envisioning, of the successful movie franchise that spawned many a sequel. I’ve never been a big horror guy and a hockey-masked mass-murdering villain that has the same first name as me isn’t going to get me to the theater.
The International looks good. The trailer looks good. The cast looks good. But, the launch date has me worried. I have a feeling that it isn’t going to be all that good. Yet, I will be sitting at my local theater tomorrow morning taking in this action thriller.
Do any of these movies look good to you? Will you be checking any of them out this weekend?

Review: Push is a convoluted sci-fi action flick that starts off interesting and then makes you say, “Well that doesn’t make any sense, why would they do that?,” way too many times.
When I saw the trailer for Push the first time, and given the similar release date as well, it made me think it was going to be another Jumper. A bunch of cool sci-fi fight scenes wrapped up in a movie with very little story and even less back-story.
Yet, Push sucked differently. It gives you an interesting premise and actually has a back-story that they late out in the opening voiceover. The problem is that the story being told within that context doesn’t make any sense. I heard one fellow moviegoer tell another on the way out of the theater that it was good, but confusing. I wondered if this could be the case, cause I sort of felt the same way.
After having pondered it a little over the last few hours thinking about what to say in this review, I came to the conclusion that Push couldn’t be both good and confusing.
Unfortunately, Push reminded me of the last volume of NBC’s Heroes. It seems that it is hard to come up with new and compelling ways to tell stories about people with superhuman abilities. This one had a good premise, but fizzled in the execution. It is one of those movies where none the events in it would have ever taken place, if the covert group of bad guys had just done one thing differently in the past. Something that makes more sense to me for them to have done given what they are trying to do. So, for me the movie ends up being almost a total waste.
I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on Push, cause mine are pretty much as convoluted as the movie was.
He’s Just Not a Push Fanboy
This weekend there are three new movies that I am interested in seeing.
First, tomorrow I am going to see Push. I fear that it is going to be another Jumper, but pretty much anything action oriented is better on the big screen. So, if it looks interesting at all, I’m going to want to see it at a theater. Here’s hoping that there is more than just action and special f/x.
Second, on Saturday I am going to go see Fanboys. It has been delayed for quite sometime and is finally making its way to the big screen. I am pretty much condition to want to see anything Star Wars related, so this is a much see. Plus, it stars Kristen Bell from one of my all time favorite shows, Veronica Mars.
Lastly, on Sunday I think I might go see He’s Just Not That Into You. It’s a total chick flick, but there is something about the mega cast that has me interested.
They all look good to me, so I think it will be a weekend triple feature. I just hope they are at least close to being as good as they look, or better in the case of Push.
Do any of these movies look or sound good to you?
