New Movies in Theaters for the July 4th, 2011 Weekend

There are seven new movies in theaters for the extended Fourth of July Weekend. One opens Wednesday, June 29th, two more open everywhere on Friday, July 1st, and another four are in limited release as of Friday.

Nationwide – New Movie in Theaters Wednesday, June 29th:

Movie: Transformers: Dark of the Moon (PG-13)
Starring: Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, John Malkovich & Frances McDormand
Genre: Sci-Fi Action
Synopsis: Sam Witwicky (LaBeouf) isn’t all that happy being the human ally of the Optimus Prime, as he begins to move into adulthood. It turns out the space race between the U.S.S.R. and the USA had a hidden agenda and remains a dangerous secret to this day. Shockwave arrives as the villain of the story.
First Thoughts: Even though the last one wasn’t much more than a long and loud spectacle with little story, I am oddly excited to go see this third installment in the film series. I’ll be at my local theater Wednesday morning. Is being released in 3D and IMAX 3D as well.

Nationwide – New Movies in Theaters Friday, July 1st:

Movie: Larry Crowne (PG-13)
Starring: Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Bryan Cranston, Cedric the Entertainer & Taraji P. Henson
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Synopsis: A guy that was good at his job and respected by his company gets let go in a wave of corporate downsizing. Not sure what to do next, he decides to college, hoping that a degree will help him find a new career and be able to keep it. Along the way he meets some new and interesting friends at school and starts to develop feelings for one of instructors, who herself has lost passion in what she does.
First Thoughts: Great cast. Could be fun, but not expecting much. Will find out tonight and post a full review Thursday night.

Movie: Monte Carlo (PG)
Starring: Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester, Katie Cassidy, Cory Monteith & Andie MacDowell
Genre: Comedy
Synopsis: A group of friends decide to leave their small town and travel to Paris for some summer fun. The tour they purchased turns out to be less than what they expected until one of them gets mistaken for a British socialite. They end up on a trip to Monte Carlo for a week of parties and fun until the real socialite shows up.
First Thoughts: While there are lots of recognizable faces, many that I like, this is definitely not a movie for me.

Limited – New Movies in Theaters Friday, July 1st:

  • Crime After Crime – Documentary about two lawyers trying to free Debbie Peagler, who convicted of killing her abusive boyfriend.
  • Delhi Belly – Crime comedy that has three unsuspecting guys end up on the hit list of the most powerful crime syndicate in India.

As someone who watches a lot of freaking movies, I hesitate watching a movie I’m not sure that’s going to be good. Never watched any of the transformers so I can’t judge them. (Except a lot of people complain about the changing actors o.o) I’ll probably see Larry Crowne. In the preview where Tom Hanks is right outside her door dancing made me smile. ^^
