New Movies Releasing Friday, April 8th, 2011?

There are 12 new movies releasing Friday. Five open everywhere and another seven are opening on a limited basis.

There is still a couple days left to enter our The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader DVD giveaway.

Nationwide – New Movies Releasing Friday, April 8th:

Movie: Arthur (PG-13)
Starring: Russell Brand, Helen Mirren, Greta Gerwig, Jennifer Garner & Nick Nolte
Genre: Comedy
Synopsis: A man that grew up relying on access to a limitless fortune and his nanny has to make a big decision. Does he go forth with an arranged marriage that will ensure his lavish lifestyle or risk everything for the woman he has fallen in love with.
First Thoughts: Way too many movies are being remade/re-imagined/etc. these days and my first thought when hearing of this one was, the original didn’t even deserve a sequel, let alone now being redone. Looks like a waste of a pretty talented cast. I mean, how the heck did Hellen Mirren end up in this thing?

Movie: Born to Be Wild 3D (G)
Starring: Morgan Freeman, Dr. Birute Mary Galdikas & Daphne Sheldrick
Genre: Nature Documentary
Synopsis: Follows world renowned primatologist Dr. Birute Galdikas and others into the Kenyan savannah as they rescue orangutans and elephants, rehab them and return them to the wild.
First Thoughts: Well, you can’t go wrong with Morgan Freeman as your narrator.

Movie: Hanna (PG-13)
Starring: Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana, Tom Hollander, Olivia Williams, Jason Flemyng, Jessica Barden & Cate Blanchett
Genre: Action Thriller
Synopsis: A young woman has been raised by her father, a former CIA agent, in the wilds of Finland. Her upbringing has all been geared to becoming the perfect assassin. She is sent into the world by her father on a mission, which has her traveling across Europe dodging agents sent after her by a ruthless agent. As she closes in on her target, she finds out shocking information about herself.
First Thoughts: This is the one I’ll be seeing this Friday. Hope it turns out to be as good as it looks.

Movie: Soul Surfer (PG)
Starring: AnnaSophia Robb, Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt, Lorraine Nicholson & Carrie Underwood
Genre: Family Sports Drama
Synopsis: Based on the true story of Bethany Hamilton, who overcame losing an arm in a shark attack to become a champion surfer once again.
First Thoughts: Well, it has a pretty solid cast.

Movie: Your Highness (PG)
Starring: Danny R. McBride, James Franco, Rasmus Hardiker, Natalie Portman, Toby Jones, Justin Theroux & Zooey Deschanel
Genre: Fantasy Comedy
Synopsis: A man that has watched has his older brother has gone off on journey after journey and win the hearts of the people must now go on one of his own after his bride-to-be is abducted by an evil wizard. He teams up with his brother for his first quest and they meet up with a beautiful, but dangerous, woman along the way. They face many creatures and warriors and if they can save here, they may just save their land as well.
First Thoughts: It looks dumb and since I just don’t find Danny McBride funny and he is one of the writers in addition to starring, I don’t hold out high hopes.
