New Movies This Friday, October 14th, 2011

There are 14 new movies this Friday. Three start everywhere and another 11 are in limited release.

Nationwide – New Movies This Friday, October 14th:

Movie: The Big Year (PG)
Starring: Steve Martin, Jack Black, Owen Wilson, Brian Dennehy & Anjelica Huston
Genre: Adventure Comedy
Synopsis: One guy is having a late-life crisis, another a midlife crisis, and a third is having a no-life crisis. They decide they need to do something to get them out of where they are in life. The answer is entering a big prestigious contest that will take them around the country for a year to see who can identify the most species of birds.
First Thoughts: The cast is good, but that plot synopsis sounds stupid and the trailer doesn’t really help it out much. Not going to get me to the theater for this one.

Movie: Footloose (PG-13)
Starring: Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid & Andie MacDowell
Genre: Dance Drama
Synopsis: A kid from Chicago moves to a small Midwestern town where dancing has been outlawed.
First Thoughts: I’m not totally against movie remakes, but this is not one that was even close to needing to be remade. Plus, the plot makes even less sense 30 years later. Another one I won’t be seeing at the theater this weekend.

Movie: The Thing (R)
Starring: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Ulrich Thomsen, Eric Christian Olsen & Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje
Genre: Sci-Fi Horror
Synopsis: A group of researchers get infected one by one after discovering something from another planet frozen. They try to stop it, before it can get away and out to society.
First Thoughts: Speaking of remakes that didn’t need to be made.
