What Has Been Going on at NewMovieFriday.com?
You may have noticed that the site looks a little different. Also, that it hasn’t been working recently and that it was even completely down for a day or so last weekend. Had some problems with my web host (HostGator) and in the trek to getting things solved, they were only made worse by one of the support techs, as he made a change that took down this site and a few others on my account that included my main site TVaholic.com.
It took a little while to get things back up and at least get the sites viewable to those trying to visit my sites. Everything is pretty much back up to where it was, except here at NewMovieFriday.com. For the most part, things are back in working order here. But, I am now in the middle of redesigning the site, which ended up needing to happen because of the problems that arose mentioned above.
Look for things like the video player, in the right hand column, with upcoming trailers and such. Also, will be adding a new section to the site with posts featuring clips, news, photos, posters, and trailers from movies that are coming soon.
Now, it’s time to get back to watching and then reviewing movies. Also, need to catch up on the past few weeks of reviews.
Here are three quick reviews from the last three weeks:
- The Dark Knight was awesome and totally lived up to the hype, which almost never happens. Rating: Pay Full Price and See It Twice.
- Hellboy II: The Golden Army was entertaining, but had a completely throwaway plot that was just completely useless. Rating: Worth a Rental.
- Hancock was great for the first 45 minutes or so, great setup, and then peters out in the second half. Rating: Worth an Early Matinee.
What New Movies Start the Week of the Fourth of July?
On Wednesday we get two new movies arriving at a theater near you. They are opening everywhere and there is one starting tomorrow in limited release.
Opening Nationwide on Wednesday, July 2nd:
Movie: Hancock (PG-13)
Starring: Will Smith, Charlize Theron, Jason Bateman, Eddie Marsan & Johnny Galecki
Genre: Action Comedy
Synopsis: You have your heroes and there are the superheroes, but then there’s Hancock. He doesn’t exactly follow the normal superheroes path. He is conflicted, sarcastic and pretty much just doesn’t care. He tries to help out, but doesn’t exactly do so the way people would want or expect. One day he saves the life of a PR guy and that guy sets out to revamp Hancock’s image even though everyone thinks it is a lost cause.
First Thoughts: The reluctant hero that doesn’t care aspect of this interests me. I was going to go see it today, but it looks like I will be seeing it Friday morning as per usual.
Movie: Kit Kittredge: An American Girl (PG)
Starring: Abigail Breslin, Julia Ormond, Chris O’Donnell, Wallace Shawn & Joan Cusack
Genre: Family Comedy
Synopsis: A young girl and aspiring reporter loves to bring home strays, everything from abandoned dogs to a couple of hobos willing to work for food. Yet, one day her happy childhood is interrupted when her father has to leave home to find work in another city. A crime spree is sweeping the town and the hobos are being blamed. Kit wants to go to the hobo camp to see things for herself and gets her new friends to take her there. She writes an article about it from a kid’s perspective. When the crime spree strikes her home, her loyalties are tested, as her hobo friends are being charged with the crime. So, she sets out to find out who are the real people behind all the crime.
First Thoughts: Not my cup of tea, but may be a fine choice for parents looking for something fun to take their kids to see.
Movie in Limited Release:
- The Wackness - Romantic comedy set in 1994 New York starring Ben Kingsley, Josh Peck, Famke Janssen, Olivia Thirlby and Mary-Kate Olsen. Starts July 3rd.
For New Movie Friday there are two new movies to choose from this week. They are Hancock and Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. What new movie looks good to you this week?
