What Has Been Going on at NewMovieFriday.com?

July 23, 2008 · Filed Under Miscellaneous · 1 Comment

You may have noticed that the site looks a little different. Also, that it hasn’t been working recently and that it was even completely down for a day or so last weekend. Had some problems with my web host (HostGator) and in the trek to getting things solved, they were only made worse by one of the support techs, as he made a change that took down this site and a few others on my account that included my main site TVaholic.com.

It took a little while to get things back up and at least get the sites viewable to those trying to visit my sites. Everything is pretty much back up to where it was, except here at NewMovieFriday.com. For the most part, things are back in working order here. But, I am now in the middle of redesigning the site, which ended up needing to happen because of the problems that arose mentioned above.

Look for things like the video player, in the right hand column, with upcoming trailers and such. Also, will be adding a new section to the site with posts featuring clips, news, photos, posters, and trailers from movies that are coming soon.

Now, it’s time to get back to watching and then reviewing movies. Also, need to catch up on the past few weeks of reviews.

Here are three quick reviews from the last three weeks:

  • The Dark Knight was awesome and totally lived up to the hype, which almost never happens. Rating: Pay Full Price and See It Twice.
  • Hellboy II: The Golden Army was entertaining, but had a completely throwaway plot that was just completely useless. Rating: Worth a Rental.
  • Hancock was great for the first 45 minutes or so, great setup, and then peters out in the second half. Rating: Worth an Early Matinee.

What New Movies Start Friday, July 11th?

This Friday we get three new movies arriving at a theater near you. Three of them are opening everywhere and one is in limited release.

Opening Nationwide on Friday, July 11th:

Movie: Hellboy II: The Golden Army (PG-13)
Starring: Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, Luke Goss & John Alexander
Genre: Comic Fantasy Action
Synopsis: The truce behind humankind and the realm of the invisible is broken and it threatens to unleash hell on Earth. The ruthless leader of the other world is defying his bloodline and attempts to awaken the unstoppable creature army. It is up to Hellboy and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense to stop this from happening. But, Hellboy must choose between this world that he has known and the other and an unknown destiny that may be calling.
First Thoughts: Never saw the first one, but this one just looks better than Journey to the Center of the Earth or Meet Dave.

Movie: Journey to the Center of the Earth (PG)
Starring: Brendan Fraser, Anita Briem & Josh Hutcherson
Genre: Fantasy Adventure
Synopsis: A scientist on an expedition to Iceland with his nephew and a local guide get trapped in a cave. There only chance to get out is to journey deeper and deeper into the Earth. They travel through never before seen worlds and have to deal with unimaginable creatures. With volcanic activity getting greater, they must figure out how to return to the surface before time runs out.
First Thoughts: I will wait for the next Mummy film to see Brendan Fraser on the big screen.

Movie: Meet Dave (PG)
Starring: Eddie Murphy, Elizabeth Banks, Gabrielle Union, Ed Helms & Scott Caan
Genre: Sci-Fi Comedy
Synopsis: What looks like an ordinary man emerging from a ball of fire from space is actually a spaceship that is operated by lots of human looking aliens that are just over an inch tall. They are trying to find a way to save their home planet, but things get complicated when the captain of their mission falls for an Earth woman.
First Thoughts: Just doesn’t look good at all, but it couldn’t be worse than Norbit.

Movie in Limited Release:

  • Garden Party - A disillusioned female youth falls in with a confused group of teens in Los Angeles that are trying to make their dreams come true in this ensemble comedy.

For New Movie Friday there are four new movies to choose from this week, as everything mentioned above is actually playing in my area. What new movie looks good to you this week?
