Well, let’s take a look at what is playing this week. There are eight movies hitting theaters, with four opening everywhere and four others are in limited release.
Opening Nationwide on Friday, October 17th:
Movie: Max Payne (R)
Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Chris O’Donnell, Beau Bridges & Ludacris
Genre: Action Thriller
Synopsis: A cop that does things his own way ends up in a battle of supernatural proportions after heading into the dark underworld to find those responsible for killing his family and partner. Based on the video game.
First Thoughts: Hoping this turns out to be at least as good as Hitman from last year.
Movie: The Secret Life of Bees (PG-13)
Starring: Dakota Fanning, Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah, Sophie Okonedo, Alicia Keys & Paul Bettany
Genre: Period Coming-of-Age Drama
Synopsis: A 14-year-old girl haunted by the memories of her dead mother runs away with a friend to the small South Carolina town that may hold the key to her mother’s past. While there, three sisters that teach her about beekeeping and other things take her in.
First Thoughts: The best family option this weekend, unless you are really hankering for some talking dogs again.
Movie: Sex Drive (R)
Starring: Josh Zuckerman, Clark Duke, Amanda Crew, James Marsden & Seth Green
Genre: Teen Sex Comedy
Synopsis: An 18-year-old head cross country with two of his friends to lose his virginity to a hot girl he met online. The trip gets out of hand, but they learn lessons from all the misadventures. He takes his brother’s vintage Pontiac GTO to do so.
First Thoughts: Trying for another Superbad.
Movie: W. (PG-13)
Starring: Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Banks, James Cromwell, Ellen Burstyn, Thandie Newton & Richard Dreyfuss
Genre: Drama
Synopsis: The story of George W. Bush as told by Oliver Stone.
First Thoughts: The clips look so over the top that I don’t really see myself seeing this anytime soon. Probably when it hits the premium cable outlets someday.
