What New Movies Start Friday, April 25th?

This week, there are eight new movies hitting the big screen. Three are opening everywhere and five are in limited release.

Opening Nationwide on Friday, April 25th:

Movie: Baby Mama (PG-13)
Starring: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Greg Kinnear, Dax Shepard & Sigourney Weaver
Genre: Comedy
Synopsis: A single businesswoman in her late thirties decides that she wants to have a baby, but it turns out she is not able to conceive. So, she hires a surrogate mother, but the working-class woman she hires needs a place to stay. She decides to move her in and a battle between the two breaks out on how to get ready for the baby’s arrival.
First Thoughts: It’s Tina Fey (30 Rock) and Amy Poehler (Saturday Night Live) together again. Fey is a very good comedic writer and actress and Poehler is usually the best thing about SNL. This is the movie I will be seeing this week.

Movie: Deception (R)
Starring: Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams & Maggie Q
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Synopsis: A lowly accountant looking for a little thrill in his life gets introduced to an underground sex club by a friend, who says he is a lawyer. But, he ends up getting embroiled in the case of a woman that has gone missing and the theft of millions. He must then figure his way out.
First Thoughts: This looks like a good candidate for a Saturday night rental once it arrives on DVD.

Movie: Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay (R)
Starring: John Cho, Kal Penn, Rob Corddry, Roger Bart & Neil Patrick Harris
Genre: Comedy
Synopsis: Two stoners get mistaken for terrorists on a plane, when really they are just a couple of idiots.
First Thoughts: Will probably be the box office winner of the weekend.

Movies in Limited Release:

  • Deal – Psychological drama that stars Burt Reynolds (Boogie Nights), as a former card shark that has found a young up-and-comer, Bret Harrison (TV’s Reaper), to back, until a woman, Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie), gets in the way. The plot synopsis reads much like The Color Of Money, which had a former pool shark backing a younger pool player.
  • A Plumm Summer – Family action adventure flick.
  • Standard Operating Procedure – Documentary examination of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal and the Iraqi war.
  • Tashan – Romantic action adventure.
  • Then She Found Me – Romantic comedy drama starring Helen Hunt (What Women Want) and Bette Midler (Beaches).

For New Movie Friday there are three new movies to choose from this week. They are Baby Mama, Deception and Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay. What new movie looks good to you this week?
