What New Movies Start Friday, February 6th, 2009?

It’s time to get things going again here at New Movie Friday. There are six movies opening this week, four everywhere and two others are in limited release.

Opening Nationwide on Friday, February 6th:

Movie: Coraline (PG)
Starring: Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Ian McShane, Dawn French & Jennifer Saunders
Genre: Children’s Fantasy
Synopsis: A bored girl, Coraline Jones, living in her new home finds a secret door. There she discovers an alternate world from the one she knows. Everything seems almost identical, except better than the world she is from. But, she soon finds that everything isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and must use her resourcefulness and determination to keep from being trapped there forever and return to real family.
First Thoughts: Looks like an interesting family movie, but holds no interest for me. Also available in 3-D at some theaters.

Movie: He’s Just Not That Into You (PG-13)
Starring: Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Kevin Connolly & many others.
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Synopsis: The story of a group of twenty- and thirtysomethings attempting to navigate the romantic waters of the dating pool up through the marriage. They all have trouble reading the opposite sex.
First Thoughts: This has a huge cast and actually looks really good, at least from the trailer. It’s a total “chick flick,” but I still want to see it for some reason.

Movie: Pink Panther 2 (PG)
Starring: Steve Martin, Jean Reno, Emily Mortimer, Andy Garcia & Alfred Molina
Genre: Comedy
Synopsis: The Pink Panther Diamond has been stolen and it seems the only man that can solve the case is Inspector Clouseau. So, he sets out to recover the stolen merchandise as only he can.
First Thoughts: This is one of those movies that makes me ask why? I’ve yet to see the first Steve Martin Pink Panther remake and this one looks even worse.

Movie: Push (PG-13) (Review)
Starring: Dakota Fanning, Djimon Hounsou, Chris Evans, Camilla Belle & Cliff Curtis
Genre: Sci-Fi Action Thriller
Synopsis: Go into the world of psychic espionage, where people have been artificially enhanced to be able to see the future, movie objects with their minds, and more. In the midst of this, a man and a teenage girl set out to stop a clandestine agency from putting the future of civilization in danger.
First Thoughts: My first thought when I saw this was great, another Jumper, a movie with lots of action, but with very little story. I hope that it isn’t, since this is the movie I will most likely be seeing on Friday.

Movies in Limited Release:

  • Chocolate – A martial arts actioner about a woman that can see someone do something once and instantly be able to repeat it.
  • Fanboys – This road comedy about a group of friends who try and sneak their dying friend onto George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch. This has been long delayed and stars Kristen Bell (TV’s Veronica Mars) and one I have been wanting to see since I first heard about it.

For New Movie Friday there are five new movies to choose from this week. They are Coraline, Fanboys, He’s Just Not That Into You, Pink Panther 2, and Push. What new movie looks good to you this week?
