What New Movies Start Friday, March 13th, 2009?

There are eight movies opening this week, three everywhere and five others are in limited release.

Opening Nationwide on Friday, March 13th:

Movie: The Last House on the Left (R)
Starring: Tony Goldwyn, Monica Potter, Sara Paxton, Garret Dillahunt, Martha MacIsaac & Riki Lindhome
Genre: Horror
Synopsis: A girl and her friend are taken by an escaped prisoner and his buddies. They leave her for dead, but she makes it back to her parents’ lake house. That also happens to be the place that the attackers have sought shelter. When she makes it back, the strangers will rue the day they ever messed with couple’s daughter.
First Thoughts: Horror movies just don’t do it for me, especially one that is classified as sadistic. Don’t find that entertaining.

Movie: Miss March (R)
Starring: Zach Cregger, Trevor Moore, Raquel Alessi, Molly Stanton & Craig Robinson
Genre: Comedy
Synopsis: A guy wakes from his four year coma only to find out that the girl of his dreams has gone from being his virginal high school sweetheart to a Playboy centerfold. His best friend thinks that they should head across country and crash a party at the Playboy Mansion to try and win her back.
First Thoughts: The trailer for this movie was terrible, it couldn’t of made this movie look worse if they were trying. Not a laugh to be had in the entire thing. Just don’t see myself seeing another crappy sex-comedy.

Movie: Race to Witch Mountain (PG)
Starring: Dwayne Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, Carla Gugino, Alexander Ludwig & Ciarán Hinds
Genre: Sci-Fi Family Adventure
Synopsis: Witch Mountain has long been rumored to be a place of unexplained phenomena and strange occurrences. A Las Vegas cab driver meets two teens that have supernatural powers and ends up in a race to save the world. They have to stay ahead of the government, mobsters, and other extraterrestrials to uncover the secret of Witch Mountain.
First Thoughts: Doesn’t really interest me, but the other two offerings even less so. By default this looks like the winner this week.

Movies in Limited Release:

  • Brothers at War – Documentary that follows a guy with two brothers serving in Iraq.
  • The Edge of Love – Drama starring Keira Knightley, Sienna Miller, Matthew Rhys, and Cillian Murphy about two couples in war-torn London and how their relationships become intertwined.
