in New Movies This Friday

There are seven new films that start this Friday. Two open everywhere and another five are in limited release. Thought I had already posted this on Tuesday before I left for Comic-Con in San Diego, but I had not.

Nationwide – New Movies This Friday, July 22nd:

Movie: Captain America: The First Avenger (PG-13)
Starring: Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving & Dominic Cooper
Genre: Superhero Action Thriller
Synopsis: A guy that keeps getting turned down for military service volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America’s ideals.
First Thoughts: I am super excited to see this one, as I’ve heard mostly positive things about it. It is also being released in 3-D.

Movie: Friends With Benefits (R)
Starring: Justin Timberlake, Mila Kunis, Patricia Clarkson, Jenna Elfman & Bryan Greenberg
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Synopsis:
A man and a woman that are friends think that it will be easy to add sex to their friendship, even though most Hollywood romantic comedies would have them believe otherwise. Yet, they learn that while the movies might not be right, getting physical does lead to complications.
First Thoughts: Looks like it might be fun, but didn’t I see this movie already this year starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman?

Limited – New Movies Start This Friday, July 22nd:

  • Another Earth – Drama about a woman that gets released from jail and seeks out the man whose life she shattered in a car accident several years earlier. I really wanted to see this during the Seattle International Film Festival, but didn’t get a chance to do so. Still want to see it at some point.
  • A Little Help – Comedy drama starring Jenna Fischer about a woman whose life is starting to spin out of control. She is drinking too much and goes along with an elaborate lie about how her son’s father really died.
  • The Myth of the American Sleepover – Comedy drama that follows four young people on the last day of summer before school starts and how their lives cross paths.
  • Sarah’s Key – War drama starring Kristin Scott Thomas based on the best-selling novel by Tatiana de Rosnay.
  • Singham – Action crime thriller.

There are two new movies playing in my area this week. They are Captain America: The First Avenger and Friends With Benefits. Of the seven new movies starting this Friday, what are you going to see this weekend?
