Seven new movies begin Friday. Three open nationwide and another four begin on a limited basis.
Nationwide – New Movies Beginning Friday, January 13th:
Movie: Beauty and the Beast 3-D (G)
Starring: Paige O’Hara, Robby Benson & Richard White
Genre: Animated Family Fantasy
Synopsis: A young and arrogant prince gets turned into a hideous beast by an evil enchantress until he can find love. After Beast imprisons her father, Belle tries to turn his cold heart and bring Beast out of isolation.
First Thoughts: If you’ve got young ones that have never seen this film, it might be worth taking them to see it on the big screen.
Movie: Contraband (R)
Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster, Giovanni Ribisi & Lukas Haas
Genre: Action Crime Thriller
Synopsis: A former smuggler that has long since moved away from his criminal past is forced back into the game. His brother-in-law messes up a deal with a crime boss and needs help getting out of it. A team is assembled to go to Panama to retrieve a load of counterfeit money, but things don’t go as planned. He must rely on his old skills to finish the job and keep his family safe.
First Thoughts: This is the movie I will be seeing on Friday.
Movie: Joyful Noise (PG-13)
Starring: Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton, Keke Palmer, Jeremy Jordan, Dexter Darden & Courtney B. Vance
Genre: Musical Comedy
Synopsis: The people of a small town that has fallen on hard times hopes that the local church’s choir will raise everyone’s spirits by winning a national competition. The two main ladies in the choir disagree over what type of songs they should sing. One wants to stay traditional and the other wants to change things up. They have to figure out how to work together or have no shot at all of winning.
First Thoughts: If you enjoy movies like Sister Act, then you will most likely enjoy this one as well.
Limited – New Movies Begin Friday, January 13th:
- Loosies – Comedy drama starring Peter Facinelli and Jaimie Alexander about a pickpocket that must rethink his life choices after his one night stand ends up pregnant. Began Wednesday, January 11th.
- The Divide – Suspense thriller starring Milo Ventimiglia about nine strangers that survive a nuclear attack by hiding in the bunker-like basement of the high rise apartment building they all live in.
- Don’t Go Into the Woods – Horror musical starring Eric Bogosian about a band that goes into the woods to get away from everything and focus on finishing writing songs, but end up in the middle of a nightmarish situation.
- We Need to Talk About Kevin – Suspense thriller starring Tilda Swinton and John C. Reilly about the relationship between a mother and her increasingly malevolent son.
