There are seven movies starting this Friday. Two open everywhere and another five are in limited release.
Opening Nationwide on Friday, January 28th:
Movie: The Mechanic (R)
Starring: Jason Statham, Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland & Tony Goldwyn
Genre: Action Thriller
Synopsis: An elite hitman is out for revenge when his mentor and friend is murdered. He sets out to kill all those that were behind it. The mentor’s son wants revenge too and a thirst to learn the trade. The two team up, but complications arise. Lots of stuff blows up.
First Thoughts: Looks like it could be good, but also looks like pretty much every movie Statham does.
Movie: The Rite (R)
Starring: Anthony Hopkins
Genre: Supernatural Thriller
Synopsis: A skeptical seminary student is sent to attend an exorcism school. While there he meets an old priest that introduces him to the less than pretty side of his faith.
First Thoughts: Doesn’t interest me in the least.
Opening in Limited Release
- Biutiful – Drama starring Javier Bardem as a man that is trying to square his desire to be good with his law breaking ways.
- From Prada to Nada – Comedy starring Camilla Belle, Alexa Vega and Wilmer Valderamma about two sisters that go from living in luxury to low income living after there father dies. They move in with an aunt that lives in a neighborhood that is nothing like what they have been accustomed.
- Ip Man 2: Legend of the Grandmaster – Martial arts period film about a guy in 1950s Hong Kong attempting to open a martial arts school, but having to prove himself to a corrupt leader.
- Kaboom – Horror comedy about a college student wacked out on drugs that thinks he witnessed a murder.
- When We Leave (Die Fremde) – Drama about a young Turkish woman living on her own in Germany that doesn’t see things the same way as her family does, which leads to grave family feud.
There are three new movies playing in my area this week. They are Ip Man 2: Legend of the Grandmaster, The Mechanic, and The Rite. Anything look watchable to you this weekend?
